My Story
I Worked as a Gov Contractor over 40 years , for 6+ Companies!
I worked as a Gov Contractor doing “Flight Simulation Maintenance” for the US Navy & US Air Force.
Every few years we would get a new contract company mostly everything stayed the same except the
back end of insurance, 401(k),
payrole software etc.. When I got closer to retirement I started to pay
more attention to my past 401(k)’s where some of the companies were not even in business or were
bought out. I tracked down over $100,000– in an old account from 3 companies ago.
I also found over $1200.- of unclaimed property from my past jobs taxes etc!
I wish that I had a how-to guide when I was tracking mine!
___ I call that a WIN!
“The Company Disappeared
James worked for a small manufacturer in the early
2000s. The company later shut down. His first calls
went nowhere. He used the
DOL Abandoned Plan Search to find a termination administrator, who
confirmed the plan was being closed out. The administrator provided rollover options and a deadline.
James avoided a taxable cash-out by requesting a direct rollover in time.”
